Letter from the President

Welcome to our new look. We have recently changed our website and along with that our newsletter. You will be receiving the newsletter more regularly now and the web site will be updated with blog entries and white papers to be of more value to our customers. We encourage you to look through the blogs and articles and to challenge us on their content. Our first article, Business Impact Analysis Made Simple, is one I have special interest in. We at Catalyst feel this separates us from the competition. We are continually looking at how technology can be used by our customers to impact the business. Decisions need to be made in the context of the business… not just what is theoretically, technically the best. The Dual Monitors article addresses a very popular tool we are seeing more and more. In fact, I am using a dual monitor as I write this article! The articles on P2P (peer to peer) and PowerPoint are helpful tips and the Why Fix It? article is a ‘thinker’ article that we often debate amongst ourselves internally at Catalyst (i.e. when are we being too laid back with pressing clients to replace old equipment). We welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can provide useful information and how we can work together to improve your use of technology to better your business. Feel free to email us at info@yournetexperts.com!

Why Public File Sharing and P2P are NOT good for business

It’s not uncommon for many small and medium-sized companies to use file sharing and peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms as a means to share information and data – especially when it comes to larger files that are difficult and sometimes impossible to attach to emails.

Debunking the “If It Ain’t Broke, Why Fix It?” Myth

Of course we’ve all heard of the saying “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?” And really, to some degree, that saying holds true.

When it comes to technology, though, reality favors the opposite. You might have hardware right now that’s a bit old by industry standards but is still working, so there seems to be no need to upgrade or replace it. Sooner or later though, it’s going to cause you a lot more trouble than it’s worth.
